The Sport Coach+ programme implemented in a partnership between the Olympic Refuge Foundation (ORF) and the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement MHPSS Hub has now passed 1000 trained sport coaches. A series of trainings have been conducted in ten countries – one of the latest in Copenhagen on 25 April.
More than 1000 coaches and trainers across Europe have invested their time and engagement in learning and sharing knowledge about how to create safe and supportive sport environments for youth affected by displacement. The trainers and coaches involved in Sport Coach+ engage with more than 65.000 young people across Europe.
MHPSS Hub Project Manager, Anna Tarsetti
Sport Coach+ aims to provide sport coaches with skills, knowledge and techniques to understand how stressful experiences impact young players, create safe and supportive sport environments, and respond to young players in trauma-informed and healing ways. The Sport Coach+ tools are relevant in many different contexts and across multiple sports and activities.
In Copenhagen the participants included people representing several disciplines, ranging from motorsport and weightlifting to martial arts, personal training and yoga as well as team sports like football and floorball.
