World Suicide Prevention Day 2025 - starting the conversation

The theme of World Suicide Prevention Day 10 September 2025 is ‘Changing the narrative on suicide’. That means to start the coversation based on openness, empathy, and support and to avoid misconceptions.

More than 700,000 lives are lost to suicide every year, the vast majority in low- and middle-income countries, and suicide is a leading cause of death among 15 to 29-year-olds.

There are many reasons to reach out to someone we consider at risk of suicide. But it is best to feel safe and confident when doing it.
