Journal Club Session: Using ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) methodology to support humanitarian professionals working with neurodiverse and disabled children
The Red Cross Red Crescent Research Network is organizing a Journal Club Session with Dr Ramzi Nasir.
Dr Nasir is a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician who trained at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Harvard School of Public Health. He currently practices in London, UK at imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and in private practice. Dr Nasir’s early years were spent in Palestine and Jordan experiencing first-hand the impact of war and conflict on children and families.
In this Journal Club session, Dr Nasir will present a paper which reviews the research on ECHO methodology and will then discuss his own ongoing research project applying this methodology in a humanitarian setting to support the care of children with neurodevelopmental conditions.
Find the paper: Project Extension for Community Health Outcomes (ECHO) Autism: A Successful Model to Increase Capacity in Community-Based Care
The questions framing the session will include:
- Would an approach like ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes)be helpful in your settings?
- If it is, what are barriers and promoters to setting up an ECHO program?
- What alternative or similar programs are you aware of in your context?
The facilitator will be Dr Sarah Davidson, Chief Mental Health Officer at the British Red Cross and co-chair of the MHPSS Research Network.
