Better protection and support for humanitarian workers worldwide
Meeting with Olivier Vandecasteele and representatives of the humanitarian sector
Against a backdrop of increasingly violent conflicts and growing impunity under international law, humanitarian aid workers, especially local ones, are more exposed than ever to danger. With what protection? With what support? Olivier Vandecasteele, a Belgian humanitarian who was arbitrarily imprisoned for 15 months in Iran in 2022, set up Protect Humanitarians after his release, with the aim of providing psychological and legal support to the humanitarian sector.
Cátia Sofia Peres de Matos, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Specialist at the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement MHPSS Hub is on the panel and will focus on caring for staff and volunteers.
