About the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement MHPSS Hub

The Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement MHPSS Hub is dedicated to advancing mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) throughout the RCRC Movement. Hosted by the Danish Red Cross, the Hub collaborates with National Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), as well as international humanitarian organizations and academic institutions. By uniting expertise from across the Movement and beyond, we help build stronger, more resilient communities better equipped to cope with crises and recover from adversity.

Guided by the RCRC Movement’s commitment to alleviating suffering, fostering resilience, and promoting mental health, our mission is to support the psychosocial well-being of communities worldwide. We aim to help vulnerable populations, staff, and volunteers navigate mental health challenges, especially during crises. By raising awareness of mental health needs and providing access to evidence-based resources, we strive to make MHPSS a recognized and essential right for all.

The Hub empowers National Societies and Movement partners through:

Training and Capacity Building
We provide resources, training, and technical support to ensure that staff and volunteers can address MHPSS needs with confidence. Through webinars, podcasts, and detailed guidelines, we equip teams with tools for both immediate response and long-term support.

Knowledge Generation and Sharing
We lead and collaborate on research, develop practical toolkits, and create structured channels to share best practices globally. By gathering evidence and translating research into actionable insights, we help Movement members make informed decisions and improve MHPSS strategies across settings.

Humanitarian Diplomacy and Advocacy
The Hub actively promotes MHPSS as an essential component of humanitarian aid. We advocate for policies and actions that prioritize mental health, collaborating with global partners to ensure that MHPSS is integrated into all humanitarian responses.

Partnership Development
Recognizing the importance of collaboration, we work with academic institutions, humanitarian organizations, and other stakeholders to broaden our impact. Strategic partnerships help us enhance resource sharing, expand research efforts, and strengthen MHPSS approaches for diverse communities.

Our Commitment to Quality and Innovation
By developing evidence-based standards, evaluating impact, and continuously refining MHPSS approaches, the Hub ensures that all interventions are effective, inclusive, and relevant to the communities we serve. Our focus on quality assurance in emergency and non-emergency settings supports Red Cross and Red Crescent teams in providing high-quality psychosocial services, even in resource-limited contexts.

The Movement MHPSS Hub is governed by a Steering Committee composed of eight representatives: permanent members from the ICRC, IFRC, and Danish Red Cross (DRC), alongside five rotating regional representatives—one per region—with the possibility of reappointment. The Steering Committee will appoint an Advisory Group in 2025.
