This review examined the evidence for MHPSS activities and interventions used in humanitarian emergencies, including armed conflicts, disasters, and displacement crises. Its aim was to identify current MHPSS approaches, assess the strength of the evidence supporting their effectiveness across the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement’s MHPSS Framework, and provide practical guidance for practitioners. The review also sought to identify gaps in the existing evidence base, offer recommendations for policy and practice, and highlight priorities for future research to strengthen evidence-informed MHPSS programming in humanitarian settings.
The review was commissioned by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), conducted by the British Red Cross and reviewed and prepared for publication by the RCRC MHPSS Hub for use by partners from the RCRC Movement and broader humanitarian actors, and stakeholders.
