The theme of World Mental Health Day (WMHD) 2025 is mental health in catastrophes and emergencies – this is unfortunately, the daily workspace for millions of Red Cross Red Crescent volunteers and staff across the globe.
This is our first World Mental Health Day, as the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement MHPSS Hub. We mark this day, knowing that we service and support the entire Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, including the ICRC, the IFRC and 191 National Societies. This is both, a great pride and a great responsibility. A pride, because our Movement represents hope and delivers direct support to millions of people suffering the devastating consequences of emergencies and disasters. A responsibility, because this humanitarian undertaking affects the staff and volunteers in the frontline – and supporting their psychological well-being is at the core of our mandate.
Sarah Harrison, Director at the MHPSS Hub
The Movement is supporting and accompanying people in need, at the frontlines of emergencies and disasters across the globe. We have invited some of our colleagues who deliver mental health and psychosocial support services to share their voices in advance of today’s World Mental Health Day.
